WordPress 2.8 “Baker” Released

Last Updated on by

It was announced late yesterday night that WordPress 2.8 had been released. There have been improvements made to themes, widgets, and taxonomies. There were also over 790 bugs fixed.

The WordPress team also released a video tour of WordPress 2.8, where they go over things like the new widget admin area, as well as syntax highlighting in the theme and plugin editors (which I mentioned previously).

I’ll be upgrading the demo server to 2.8 later today to check if there are any bugs with the free WordPress themes, although I’m not expecting anything major.

Have you upgraded to 2.8 yet? How do you like it?

Just upgraded one minute ago. I loved that I could press a link, and off it went! I had just done a backup yesterday in expectation that 2.8 would be soon.

Doesn’t look any different. I read a little about the new taxonomies this morning – I’ll be looking for more “What’s new in WP 2.8″ posts.

@Leora: Yep, the auto upgrade sure is a convenient feature. Although it’s always smart to make a backup beforehand. A database backup at the very least.

I may do a special “WordPress 2.8-only” edition of WordPress weekend resources tomorrow, so look out for that!

Yes, I agree! I had done a backup two days ago, in anticipation of the new release. So clicking the button was all I needed to do when the link showed up.

I especially want to hear more about taxonomies and tags. This feature can be great for SEO.

@dani: I’ve personally upgraded a few blogs to WP 2.8 with no problems at all, although it’s not surprising some people are facing troubles. Seems to happen with every upgrade.
