Now it’s time for the third theme battle. This is the first battle with two different designers going up against each other, with Brad (Tasty Showcase) and Anto (All Orange) volunteering designs. The voting process is pretty simple, just vote for which design you’d rather see as a WordPress theme. The design with the most votes will be coded into a WordPress theme by me.
Read on to vote. Come on out of the RSS reader for a second since you’ll need to be on the site to vote.
The poll is scheduled to close next Monday at midnight, so you have about a week to get your votes in.
Conclusion
Tasty Showcase if coded, is sure to be a cool theme. I’m not exactly sure how I’ll pull it off yet, but I was thinking some sort of Javascript tabbing for the four posts on the homepage with an accompanying post image. Thanks to Brad of DemusDesign for designing this interesting concept.
All Orange should be a solid blog theme if it wins. It may even have a few alternative color schemes changeable through a theme options page, similar to a previous theme designed by Anto (and also a theme battle winner), Slick Red. Anto designed it in a whopping five minutes and was originally made as a free giveaway.
If you’re a designer and interesting in participating in a future theme battle, please check out this page for more information.
Remember to vote. May the best design win!

Adding this as a comment. Mine was a free psd design that i gave away, and not that much time was spent on it.
@Anto: Heh…we’ll see how people like it.
@Leland – yea, just throwing that info out there tho before hand
Oh and just another thing to add, i would have designed a better theme if i hadda knew it was going into a “battle” LOL – but you picked it leland
so good man.
Kind of an uneven match there. One is a more of a gallery style and the other is an actual blog theme. The only thing is I don’t like orange color.
@Detoam: Well I guess it’s up to the preference of what type of theme people like as well as the actual design.
About the color, maybe Anto will be nice and make some more color schemes like he did with Slick Red, lol.
Yea, there should be color schemes =)
It’s like comparing apples to oranges in the visual sense. Brad’s is vibrant(giving it curbside appeal), but I don’t know about the details or if it is user friendly. On the other hand, Anto’s simplicity can be more complex than it looks. Like the saying, “less is more”. It just may well have all the information one might need and weeds out all the unnecessary details.
Good I am glad Anto gave his thoughts as well.
Yea, because i didnt know this was the theme going up to compete. I would have designed a better theme if i knew this was going up against someone lol.
Yes, that is what I was eluding too. However, both have great merit. It depends what you are shopping for.
@Anto Bummer you didn’t get to put up a theme you wanted. I suppose that Leland used it shows how good he thought it was.
I think there should be a different poll for a different style theme. Like, Photabulous would be good against Tasty Showcase, and Bravissimo might be good against All Orange, etc.?
A week for;
Personal Blog designs
Photoblog designs
Magazine Blog designs
So on…
Possibly Leland had a method to this madness. :]
This could be all for research value.
Since there was no point value for a critique (i.e. aesthetics, usability, execution), he may well have been just testing the theory that people choose on “visual” alone.
It would have also been helpful to the competitors to know why ppl voted the way they did.
@Zipo, they voted for the green one, because its better and a hella load more time was put into it. that orange one took me 5 mins and i didnt care how it looked, because it was a free give away. if you search #antopsd on twitter, you can download the psd to.
Again, that is what I was eluding too. I guess I was dancing around the whole subject. LOL
I was also trying to possibly eject some kind of theory behind this comp. But I do like to dance…. xD!
@Keith: Thanks for the suggestion. I’m thinking that would be the best idea for any future theme battles.
Put the same style of theme against each other so it’s not like Gallery vs. Personal Blog, and then everyone votes for the gallery theme because it’s not something you see every day.
I thought that would have been a given.
I suggest you take this comp off the board.
@Zipo: Umm…you want to stop the whole thing? I think I’ll just play this one out for the week.
It seems people think that it’s an uneven match because they’re different types of themes going up against each other, so lesson learned for future theme battles.
Well of course it is your call. That goes without saying. However given the feedback, and you said it yourself, they are just not competitively weighted. Why prolong the inevitable?
Yes, good lesson learned. Unfortunately, that is how we learn many times.
If nothing else, nice discussion.
There both 2 very nice themes. No need for things to get outa hand lol.
I think ‘All orange’ get’s my vote. It’s a really nice themes, with a lotta room for customizing
Maybe Brad could make some alternative colour schemes too, like orange and sky blue? Might be quite nice.
Thanks for the great designs.
I hope I didn’t give the wrong impression. It is all discussion/review on an open forum. =]
